Hip and Knee Pain
A hip or a knee that's stopped moving right shows up on the stairs, in the truck cab, and in the leg you've started favoring.
Chapter 01
The stairs, the truck cab, and the leg you've started favoring
A hip or a knee that isn't moving right tends to show up first in ordinary places. It's the second flight of stairs at work, not the first. It's swinging up into a truck cab or down out of one. It's standing back up from a low chair and needing a second to get your bearings, or noticing halfway through a walk around the block that you've shifted your weight onto one leg without deciding to.
Patients in New Castle and around Lawrence County describe it the same handful of ways: stiff first thing in the morning and loosening up by mid-morning, or fine on flat ground but sore on stairs and in the yard. The first visit at Mahle Chiropractic starts with a conversation about what you've noticed and when, not a form, and same day appointments are usually available if you call (724) 656-9050.

Two ways to be adjusted, and which one fits your joint is a conversation
Mahle Chiropractic offers two ways to adjust a hip or a knee. Manual adjusting uses a small, controlled force directed at the angle of the joint to improve the motion it has lost. Instrument style adjusting works through Sigma Instruments instead, delivering the correction through speed rather than force. The instrument reads the resistance and tightness in the joint before the adjustment and compares the joint's movement afterward.
Which one you get depends on the joint itself, how it presents that day, your comfort with each style, and your age. That's a decision the doctor makes with you in the room, not a default applied to every hip or every knee that walks in.
Chapter 03
Therapies that work on the muscle and tissue around the joint
Alongside an adjustment, Mahle Chiropractic offers ultrasound therapy, electric stimulation, and cupping. Ultrasound helps break up tightness in the muscle tissue and ease trigger points while bringing extra blood flow to the area. Electric stimulation, whether run through pads or applied by hand, helps the muscle contract naturally, which can improve range of motion, ease spasm, and support blood flow while the area heals. Cupping uses localized suction over a tight or tender spot to support circulation and reduce inflammation.
Which of these gets added to a visit, if any, comes down to what the doctor finds when they look at the hip or knee in front of them that day.
Managing it long term, and the $30 rate for student athletes
Mahle Chiropractic's approach to pain management and prevention goes beyond a single visit. That includes advice on reducing pain over the long term without relying on pain medication, work on balance, flexibility, and motion, and practical changes to how you do a task that's been bothering the joint, whether that's how you get in and out of a vehicle or how you lift something off the floor.
That prevention angle matters especially for young athletes, which is why in-season student athletes get adjustment and therapies for a flat $30, with a parent or legal guardian required at the first visit. All three doctors at the practice, Dr. Mitchell Mahle, Dr. Kelsey Bowser, and Dr. Christopher Argiro, played sports themselves and worked through their own injuries, Dr. Argiro on the football field in high school, which shapes how they talk with a teenager about a sore hip or a swollen knee from practice.
