Foot & Ankle Pain
The joints that carry you through the day, and the two ways Mahle Chiropractic can work on them.
Chapter 01
The first steps, and the standing that follows them
Foot and ankle pain has a rhythm to it that patients describe the same way whether they work a line, a counter or a desk. It's the first few steps out of bed before things loosen up. It's standing on concrete through a full shift at a shop or a kitchen in New Castle. It's the ankle you rolled once years ago that still lets you know when the weather turns or the ground is uneven.
If that's the shape of what you're feeling, call (724) 656-9050 and tell us about it. Same day appointments are usually available, so you don't have to plan a bad week around a waitlist.

What one of our patients wrote about her son
We'd rather let a patient say it than say it ourselves. Lorraine Jones, a longtime patient, wrote in a review: "There are chiropractors closer to me, but I love this place and all they are able to help with. I get my ears cracked to help drainage. Helped my migraines, my son's plantar fasciitis, my niece's spinal curvature. They are the best." That's her family's experience, in her own words, not a claim we make about what any visit will do for you.
Chapter 03
Two ways to be adjusted, and why a small joint sometimes points to the second one
Every adjustment here starts with a choice between two approaches. Manual adjusting delivers a small, directed force at the angle of the joint to improve the motion it's lost. Instrument adjusting uses speed instead of force, a gentle tapping motion from a Sigma Instruments device that first reads the resistance or tightness in the joint, so the doctor knows exactly where to adjust, then compares the joint's movement before and after on a computer.
For a joint as compact as an ankle, or a patient who'd rather not be moved by hand, that instrument route is a real option to have available, not a fixed protocol. Which one you get is decided in the room, based on the joint, your comfort and your age.
Therapy for the tissue, and home care between visits
Ultrasound breaks up tightness in the muscle tissue around the joint and brings extra blood flow to it. Electric stimulation, through pads or delivered by hand, helps the muscle contract naturally, easing spasm and supporting range of motion. Cupping is used to ease inflammation and increase circulation around a stubborn spot in the calf or through the arch. Which of the three fits, if any, is decided once you're on the table.
The doctors also work with patients on managing and preventing pain over the long term without pain medication, including balance, flexibility and motion work, and changing the way you do a task that keeps loading the same spot, the shoes you stand in all day or how you're stepping off a curb. At home, the standard advice is icing, heating and stretching to reduce the risk of strain, personalized in the office to what you're actually on your feet doing. Spanish speaking representatives are on staff if that's easier for your family.
